For use in dogs for correction of conditions associated with low circulating thyroid hormone (hypothyroidism). Thyro-Tabs offer nine dosage strengths from 0.1 mg to 1.0 mg, a convenient Ready-to-Dispense bottle, color-coded tablets for easy identification, scored tablets for precise dosage, proven efficacy in independent research, and unsurpassed shelf life and expiry dating. Levothyroxine (T-4) is a naturally circulating thyroid hormone produced by the canine thyroid gland. Levothyroxine sodium provided by Thyro-Tabs tablets cannot be distinguished from levothyroxine endogenously secreted from the dog's thyroid gland. Thyroid hormones influence virtually every body organ, either by their effect on growth and development or by the hormones' metabolic effects.

Indication (Dogs): Treatment of hypothyroidism (low circulating thyroid hormone) in dogs.

Administration: The initial recommended daily dose is 0.1 to 0.2 mg/10 lbs. (4.5 kg) body weight in single or divided doses. Dosage is then adjusted by monitoring the T4 blood levels every four weeks until an adequate maintenance dose is established. The usual daily maintenance dose is 0.1 mg/10 lbs. (4.5 kg). A maximum of 0.8 to 1.0 mg total daily dose is sufficient in most dogs over 80 lbs. Thyro-Tabs may be administered orally or placed in food.

Use Only Under Vet Supervision: Dosage adjustments should be based on T4 blood level monitoring every four weeks until maintenance dose is achieved.

Cautions: Warning: The administration of levothyroxine sodium to dogs to be used for breeding purposes or in pregnant bitches has not been evaluated. There is evidence to suggest that administration to pregnant bitches may in some instances affect the normal development of the thyroid gland in unborn pups.

Caution Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian. Warning Hyperthyroidism will result from repeated overdosage. Clinical signs of hyperthyroidism include excitability, nervousness, tachycardia, polyuria, polydipsia, polyphagia, and excessive panting. Administer with caution to animals with primary hypertension, euthyroidism, and clinically significant heart disease. Use in pregnant bitches has not been evaluated. |
