Sterile Water for Irrigation, USP is a sterile, distilled, nonpyrogenic water intended for use in animals for sterile irrigation, washing, rinsing, and dilution purposes. It contains no bacteriostat, antimicrobial agent, or added buffer and is intended for use as a single-dose or short-procedure irrigation. This preparation may be used for cleansing body cavities, tissues, or wounds, for irrigating indwelling catheters and surgical drainage tubes, and for washing or rinsing surgical dressings, instruments, and laboratory specimens. It also serves as a diluent or vehicle for veterinary medications used in irrigation or other pharmaceutical preparations.

Avoid continuous irrigation or prolonged dwelling inside body cavities due to risk of absorption and fluid overload.

• Contraindications/Cautions: Not for injection into the bloodstream. Avoid use in animals with conditions where fluid overload could cause complications. Use aseptic technique to prevent contamination. Discard unused portion after opening.

• Storage: Store at controlled room temperature; do not heat above 150°F (66°C). Keep container sealed until use.

• Regulatory: Prescription required; federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.
