Prednisone is an oral corticosteroid intended for use in dogs, offering potent anti-inflammatory effects for a variety of conditions. It is prescribed for collagen, dermal, allergic, ocular, otic, and musculoskeletal disorders, as well as certain chronic or recurrent diseases. Prednisone can also be used to support adrenal function in cases of acute adrenal insufficiency when salt retention is not required.

• Strength & Count: 10 mg; single tablet.

• Class: Corticosteroid / Anti-inflammatory.

• Indication (Dogs):

  • Dermal: Nonspecific eczema, summer dermatitis, burns.

  • Allergic: Acute urticaria, allergic dermatitis, drug and serum reactions, bronchial asthma, pollen sensitivities.

  • Ocular: Iritis, iridocyclitis, secondary glaucoma, uveitis, chorioretinitis.

  • Otic: Otitis externa.

  • Musculoskeletal: Myositis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, bursitis.

  • Other: Ulcerative colitis, nephrosis, and other chronic conditions responsive to corticosteroids.

• Use Only Under Vet Supervision: Dosage must be individualized based on condition severity and response. Typical dose: 2.5 mg per 10 lbs. of body weight daily, divided into two doses.

• Contraindications/Cautions:

  • May mask signs of infection and worsen existing infections.

  • Not for use in pregnant animals due to risk of birth defects and complications.

  • Avoid in animals with systemic fungal infections, certain viral infections, or peptic ulcers.

  • Long-term use may suppress adrenal gland function.

• Storage: Store at controlled room temperature, away from moisture and light.

• Regulatory: Prescription required; federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.
