Phenobarbital is a prescription anticonvulsant used in cats and dogs to help manage epilepsy and other seizure disorders. It works by reducing and stabilizing excessive neuron activity in the brain, decreasing both the frequency and severity of seizures. Phenobarbital increases Gamma Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) activity while reducing nerve stimulation, providing effective long-term seizure control.
