Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works to reduce pain and inflammation in animals. In dogs, it is primarily used for the symptomatic treatment of osteoarthritis. In cats, it is used for the control of postoperative pain and inflammation associated with orthopedic surgery, ovariohysterectomy, and castration when administered prior to surgery. This FDA-approved generic is equivalent to Metacam and offers a proven alternative with fewer gastrointestinal side effects than drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or naproxen.
