BANAMINE® Injectable Solution (flunixin meglumine) is a prescription non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) recommended for the alleviation of inflammation and pain associated with musculoskeletal disorders in horses and for the alleviation of visceral pain associated with equine colic. It is also indicated in cattle for the control of pyrexia associated with bovine respiratory disease, endotoxemia, and acute bovine mastitis, and for the control of inflammation in endotoxemia.

• Class: NSAID (analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic).

• Indications:

  • Horses: Musculoskeletal disorders; visceral pain from colic.

  • Cattle: Pyrexia with bovine respiratory disease, endotoxemia, acute mastitis.

• Dosage & Administration:

  • Horses: 0.5 mg/lb (1 mL/100 lbs) IV or IM once daily; repeat for up to 5 days. Colic: IV preferred for prompt relief; onset <15 minutes.

  • Cattle: 1.1–2.2 mg/kg (0.5–1 mg/lb) IV once daily or divided at 12-hr intervals for up to 3 days (max 2.2 mg/kg/day). For acute mastitis: 2.2 mg/kg IV once.

  • Avoid rapid IV administration.

• Cautions/Warnings:

  • Horses: For IV or IM use only. Avoid intra-arterial injection. Do not use in animals hypersensitive to flunixin. Not for horses intended for food.

  • Cattle: IV use only. Not for use in dry dairy cows or veal calves. Observe 4-day slaughter withdrawal. Milk from treated cows must not be used for 36 hours after last treatment. Not for bulls intended for breeding.

  • Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.

• Precautions: Use with caution in animals with renal, hepatic, or cardiovascular dysfunction. Avoid concomitant use with other NSAIDs or corticosteroids. May delay parturition or estrus. Monitor cows for placental retention if used near parturition.

• Storage: Store at controlled room temperature (2°–30°C / 36°–86°F).
