Apoquel is a fast-acting dog allergy medication that targets the source of itching (pruritus) to provide relief within 4 hours and effectively control symptoms within 24 hours. It works against itching caused by food allergies, flea allergies, contact dermatitis, and atopic dermatitis, allowing your dog comfort while your veterinarian determines the underlying cause. Apoquel can be used short-term for quick relief or long-term to reduce itching and inflammation, and it can be given alongside NSAIDs, parasiticides, antibiotics, vaccines, and allergen-specific immunotherapy.

How Apoquel Works:
Apoquel is a selective Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor that blocks itch-causing cytokines in the nervous system, stopping the itch at its source. Unlike steroids, cyclosporines, or antihistamines, Apoquel specifically targets the key itch signals with minimal impact on immune function.

Cautions & Warnings:
Federal (U.S.A.) law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian. For use in dogs only. Do not give to dogs under 12 months or weighing less than 6.6 lbs., or to dogs with serious infections. Not for breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs. May increase susceptibility to infections or worsen certain cancers. Side effects can include diarrhea, vomiting, anorexia, lethargy, and new skin lumps. Wash hands after handling. Keep out of reach of children and other animals. In case of accidental ingestion, seek medical attention immediately.

Directions:

• For dogs over 12 months old and over 6.6 lbs.

• May be given with or without food.

• Initial Dose: Twice daily for up to 14 days (see package insert for exact weight-based dosing).

• Maintenance Dose: Once daily after the initial 14 days.

• Do not give two doses at once if a dose is missed.

Storage: Store at 68–77°F (20–25°C) with excursions permitted between 59–104°F (15–40°C). Keep tablets in original packaging until use. Discard unused tablets properly.
