Diltiazem is a prescription calcium channel blocker used in dogs and cats to help manage cardiac diseases and arrhythmias. By blocking the movement of calcium into muscle cells, Diltiazem relaxes the heart muscle, dilates arteries, and slows abnormal electrical impulses within the heart. This improves blood flow, helps regulate heart rhythm, and reduces the workload on the heart.
